Hot Sauce of the Month June 2017
Blair's Sweet Death Hot Sauce: June 2017
June’s Sauce of the Month is Blair’s Sweet Death Sauce, which I’d put at a mild/medium heat level. Blair’s is typically well-known for their extremely hot sauces. You may recognize their name if you watch “Hot Ones” on FirstWeFeast’s YouTube channel. Blair’s Mega Death Sauce with Liquid Rage is the final and therefore hottest sauce on their panel, and we can never keep it in stock. As a matter of fact, we’ve had a hard time keeping nearly all of Blair’s products in stock. They seem to have a difficult time meeting the high demand, so when you’re able to get your hands on a bottle of Blair’s consider yourself pretty lucky.
Sauce Overview
Blair’s Sweet Death Sauce is one of the few Blair’s sauces that does not contain pure pepper extract in order to deliver an obscene amount of heat. Blair keeps the focus on this sauce firmly on flavor, and it delivers a tropical and sweet taste with a mild/medium amount of heat when compared to other hot sauces.;
Who Makes It
This sauce is made by Blair’s Sauces and Snacks, which was founded by Blair Lazar around 1991. You may already be familiar with the story of how he came up with his infamous Death sauces when he was working as a bartender at the Jersey Shore when he was about 19 years old. The bar served its customers something called “Wings of Death,” which used the sauce Blair came up with, and then he decided to start bottling and selling it himself. He first started with trade shows before it really took off and now has become one of the best-recognized brands of hot sauce today.
What It Tastes Like
Blair’s Sweet Death Sauce is sweet (just as the name indicates) but not overly so. It gets its tropical notes from mango and passion fruit in addition to real Habanero and Cayenne peppers. Honey also adds a bit of texture and additional sweetness, which is then counterbalanced by the vinegar, onion, lemon, garlic, and cloves. Again, because this sauce lacks the addition of pure pepper extract, it doesn’t have any of that bitterness to it, making Blair’s Sweet Death a great cooking sauce in addition to being a delicious table sauce.
Tip of the Month
No official recipe this month, but the tropical and fruity flavor and mild heat of this makes it perfect for white meats such as pork, chicken, or white fish (like tilapia) in addition to veggies. I noticed that someone left a product review on our website a while back for this sauce where they recommended trying it on eggs. I’ve never tried it myself on eggs, but maybe you’d like to try that out as well?
Thanks again for being a part of the club! See you next month!
